Certification solution GPON-Tester

GPON-Tester & OLT-EmulatorTelnet Redes Inteligentes integral solution for PON certification allows the validation and certification of a GPON network in deployment or already installed by in field technicians and installers.

End to end certification
The solution consists of two equipments, and OLT-Emulator and GPON-Tester. Using the connection to a laptop and GPON-Tester software allows the realization of advanced measures, such as reflections in up-link, power in both the uplink and in downlink, distance to the OLT, emulate the ONT of the client to synchronize with the OLT emulator or to a real OLT operator and verify the correct subscriber's service provisioning.

Moreover, digitally signed reports are generated with the information of the analysis of the connection, which is used to certify unmistakably the state and the proper installation of the connection by the in-field technician, and allows tracing back later the parameters of the connection the moment of the installation.

GPON-Tester can additionally make in 2 seconds a quick test autonomously by a button and LEDs controls on the frontal, in order to facilitate the identification of failures and maintenance in a GPON network already deployed and in use.

Application cases

A PON network deployment may suffer from installation problems that hinder their performance. Mechanical splices badly performed, dirt on the connectors, pressure or excessive curvatures of the fibers have a direct impact on the performance of the network and can result in a bad experience for the subscriber.

The resolution of these failures involves the intervention of expert in-field technicians, who are economically costly, in time and training of the technicians. They also require the use of instrumentation such as power meters and reflectometers.

The GPON-Tester solution allows to identify these problems in a simple and quick way, allowing the certification of the installation by the technician.

Certification in deployment stage

This process of verification and certification takes place during the PON network deployment, before putting it on service. In this case, a OLT-Emulator is placed in the central in order to "Ring" the fiber, establishing a logical GPON network and perform power measurements in the uplink.

Concurrently, the technicians then proceed to the distribution boxes of the buildings with the GPON-Tester equipment and a laptop with the GPON-Tester App. Using both, will certify the correct operation and optical parameters of each of the lines that will enter into service on the future, enclosing both the measures detected by the GPON-Tester and those sent by the OLT-Emulator from central.

Also GPON-Tester can be used individually to quickly detect defectives lines and solve specific problems.

When a subscriber is registered, the technician performing the installation at the home take a GPON-Tester and a laptop with the GPON-Tester App. This time, at the Central will be teh OLT on service the of the PON. First GPON-Tester will connect to the wall socket of the subscriber and, using its pushbutton, execute "quick tests" of verification (2s. per click) to check every point of the installation: Checking that the downstream power level is in range and confirming the absence of reflections in the uplink. The mere synchronization of an ONT or descending power measurement are not enough to verify the connection socket, which may validate installations where the optical budget in up-link is insufficient and a source of continuous line problems.

Once the physical parameters have been verified, GPON-Tester will be synchronized and provisioned with the services emulating the ONT of the specific user you want to register.

As a final step, the technician will use the GPON-Tester application to generate a final report containing all the parameters that can certify that the installation conditions (physical) and configuration (logical) in the line of the client are appropriate. This report is digitally signed to avoid intermediate tampering.

In a domestic environment, users can perform operations in optical fibers that can damage the service, such as stapling cables, crush them with furniture, stepping on them, bent in excess, dirt of the connectors, etc.

For the detection of these failures, the technician can use the rapid test of GPON-Tester, which allows with just one click and 2 seconds to check a line at a particular point, being able to resolve the problem quickly and perform a new report of the installation with GPON-Tester App.
