Features
- Optical transponder that acts as network termination point, as media converter and/or window and as a repeater for FiberChannel optical circuits of 1G and 2G
- GBICs (1G version) and SFPS (2G version) modular interfaces. The 2G version offers dual optical interface on the network side to provide path protection
- Card inserted in MiniSAE, MetroSAE chassis and in the single slot individual microSAE chassis
- Includes 3R clock recovery in all optical interfaces. Making loops into the managing system
- The 2G version (dual FC) also works with 1Gbps circuits.
- Possibility of measuring optical power in network interface/s and the user interface.

FiberChannel 1G/2G 1+1 Optical Adapters
Fiber Channel optical adapters act as network and/or service termination points, as media converters and/or window or optical repeaters to extend the scope of the circuit.
This equipment, completely transparent to the frame, comes in 1G (optical modular GBIC interfaces) and the 2G version (interfaces SFPS) versions. This latest version supports the transmission rate of 1G and has two interfaces on the network: when the main circuit falls, the adapter automatically turns on the backup circuit according to different switching policies.
Both versions of optical adapters have a hardware mechanism that allows the automatic propagation of interface cuts: if the fail occurs in any of the fiber network of the circuit, causes the cut on the user's optical power, notifies the user's equipments or operator's ones of the fail of the optical fiber. This option is especially interesting when the remote SNMP management options are not activated.
Interfaces
AO FiberChannel (2G) has two (three) removable optical GBIC interfaces (SFPS): a user interface and a (dual) network interface selected from a wide range of fiber and CWDM and DWDM interfaces (the latter only in the network side).
From the SNMP management system optionally it is possible to monitor physical parameters of the interfaces such as: received and transmitted power, intensity of each laser polarization (detects premature aging) and the internal temperature of the optical modules.
Moreover, facilities for the establishment of loops in the five optical interfaces allow the detection of flaws and failures.
The 2G version has traffic generation mechanisms available for testing of the physical level of the network link.
Applications
- Singlemode/multimode media converter.
- Network and service termination point.
- Transportation of FiberChannel flows in C(D)WDM infrastructures.
